Sinus Infection

There are many hollow spaces in our skull and facial bone called sinuses. They are around, above and behind nasal cavity intimately related to nasal passages. It is said that their evolutionary purpose has been to lighten the skull so that our skull is not too heavy. Although they are connected with various methods to the nasal or oral cavity and ear, they are for most part independent structures and maintain their status with self-cleaning processes. However, they are prone to infection by viruses, bacteria and fungi. They are also prone to development of polyps and allergic inflammation.

Sinusitis commonly known by people is an inclusive term used to describe infection, polyp formation, chronic inflammation or allergy affecting the sinus in face and skeleton.

There are many signs and symptoms that point to sinusitis, including pain or pressure in the face. You need to visit your primary physician, ear and nose and throat doctor, or oral and facial surgeon for establishment of various sinusitis and receive the proper treatment.
